Susan B. Gott Career Summary
Susan B. Gott holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in sculptural glass from Kent State, studied at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, and worked as a proffessional artist and art educator for over fifteen years. She is experienced in almost every facet of sculptural glass techniques including: sand casting, kiln casting, blown glass, moldmaking, sandblasting, painting, and leading.
Her art was selected by The Corning Museum of Glass for publication in New Glass Review 16, which represents an annual, worldwide survey of innovative and contemporry glass.
Susan Gott is the recipient of a New Forms Florida Grant Sponsered by the NEA and the Metro Dade Cultural Affairs Council, two Emerging Artist Grants from the Arts Council of Hillsborough County, and an Artistic Recognition Award from the State of Florida's Division of Cultural Affairs. She also serves on the Artist Advisory Committee of the Tampa/Hillsborough Arts Council. She resides in Tampa where she owns Phoenix Glass studio, a hot glass casting and blowing facility.
Gott creates large scale works in glass, and shows extensively in national jured, and invitational exhibitions such as at The Palm Beach Community College Museum, The Asheville Art Museum, Philabaum Gallery in Arizona , Arianna Gallery in Michigan, Bel Vetro in Miami, Hodgell Gallery in Sarasota, Florida and many others .
She actively pursues commissions as a venue for her architectural glass and recently completed two Public Art projects for the City of St. Petersburg, Florida, involving cast glass, steel; and lighting. The content of art her stems from her interest and study of ancient cultures, imagery, and mythology. Susan explores cryptic symbolism to develop ideas and create a new mythos using glass as a Contemporary medium
